"Aishwarya hid the truth" - director Madhur Bhandarkar

It was celebration time for the Bachchans and Bollywood when Big B announced that daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai was pregnant on June 21. But for the team behind Madhur Bhandarkar's 'Heroine', which had Ash in the lead, things weren't so great. Initially, there were rumours that the movie might be completed in a rush. But finally, producers UTV revealed on June 28 that 'Heroine' had been indefinitely postponed.

Aishwarya is believed to be five months pregnant, and hubby Abhishek has said that they will be having a November baby.

All through this, there was radio silence from Madhur, for whom 'Heroine' was a dream project. Kareena Kapoor was on board for the film at first, and Ash had stepped in once she bowed out. Madhur had admitted that he revamped 'Heroine' for Ash so it must have been really very difficult for him to see his project on hold again. Now, the director has finally opened up on his blog today (July 5) about what really happened and what he felt about it all.

Madhur has started off by saying that he thinks motherhood is 'pious', and that he salutes every woman who chooses to work in the 'delicate state'. He adds that he would never knowingly put any woman in harm's way knowing the delicate nature of her health.

He talks about 'Heroine' shoots in rocky terrain and scenes where the lead character as well as others were required to smoke, and how he shudders about the guilt he would have suffered had Ash been injured or affected in any way.

But then Madhur drops the bombshell saying that none of this would have happened if the 'actress' had informed them of impending maternity. He then says that 'the truth was hidden from us'. The director added that he only found out about Aishwarya's pregnancy from the news channels like the rest of the world.

Madhur points out that 'Heroine' was announced in Cannes on May 13, while shooting began on June 7. He talks about how things could have been reworked if they had been informed during this gap.

He also talks of his shock and depression following the decision to pull the plug on the project.

Madhur says he has spoken out now as the truth deserves to be told. But how will the Bachchans react to his truth? Watch this space for updates.
