saina nehwal shows interest to work with rajini

She’s suffering from a sore throat, ‘which is the result of ice-cream bingeing’ after notching the Swiss Open Grand Prix win in Switzerland, her first title of the year. And ace shuttler Saina Nehwal is in a chilled out mood! She’s already started practising for the Indian Open, but you can’t miss the joie de vivre in her voice as she gets chatty with NT on films, fashion, future husband and more.

On Holi when the world was playing with colours, you were busy claiming a grand prix. Any plans to have a dhamaal at home now?

Oh, but I also got to play Holi in Switzerland! There were lots of Indian fans who had turned up to watch me play. They smeared gulal on my face and I heartily reciprocated!

Indian team also won an important match the same day. Did you wish any of the cricketers?

I tried sending an SMS to Sachin Tendulkar, but due to poor network, I couldn’t get through. I’m keenly following the matches and hoping that India lifts the World Cup.

Before this win, you were battling an injury and going through a low phase. What was it that you told yourself every day to bounce back?

When I lost in Asian Games quarterfinals, it was really tough! I told myself : ‘What the hell! You could have won it!’ Honestly speaking, I didn’t want to play the next tournament. But, my mom kept telling me ‘All izzz well! That helped!

Now that you are home, any April Fool’s Day prank planned for family and friends?

I will not play pranks on my family, but yes, I and my sister will definitely pull a fast one on our friends! So, they are in for a big shock!

Along with endorsements, are you also open to doing a film?

My first priority is my game! But, give me a film with Rajinikanth and I will sign on the dotted line! After all, which girl would say no to that! It’s such an honour to do a film with a legend like him, whose jokes regale us; and whose larger-than-life films enthral us! It’s amazing that he still looks so good on screen at this age! So, for Rajini, sure!

What’s the latest on your makeover front?

Recently, I went in for blonde streaks, which is something I hadn’t tried earlier. I’ve also picked up some elegant evening gowns and some pretty designer churidar kurtas.

You turned 21 on March 17. So, what are the gifts that you got?

My uncle gave me a swank cellphone. I was playing a match on that day, and I was really surprised when each and everyone started singing ‘happy birthday’ in unison for me when the match was over! That was something, which moved me to tears!

You looked stunning walking the ramp in a pink bridal lehenga. Tell us about the dream dress that you want to wear when you actually become a bride?

A diamante-studded frothy white gown, just like the one worn by Barbie, is something that I’d like to wear for my wedding!

And is there a special man, who’s making you dream of this particular dress?

I have quite a few male friends, but I’ve no time for commitment! So, nobody special on my horizon, but I can tell you one thing that my dream man would be someone, who can be my friend and understand the demands of my game, because I don’t plan to hang my boots after marriage!
